🧭GLS Italy: Error validating addresses
❓ Why does this error occur?
GLS Italy is particularly strict with address validation. Every time a shipment is generated, the GLS system checks the recipient's address against its own database . If it detects that any field doesn't match exactly—for example, the street number , the street name format , or some abbreviation —the order will not be processed and will be marked as an error .
🧩 Important:
Even if the address appears correct on Google Maps or in the original order, GLS may still reject it if it doesn't match its internal format.
⚠️ Example of a common case
- Address entered in the order: Nontolana numero110n
- GLS returns error: invalid address.
- Upon review, it is discovered that the number or format does not exactly match what GLS expects (the valid address is Via Nonatonala, 110 but Nontolana 110 was entered and the validator accepted it)
- Result: The order is not processed and is blocked.
🧰 Solution: Automatic address validation in real time
We have included a feature that allows you to verify and correct data directly from the system , before resubmitting the order.
This tool includes:
- A button to return the order to “Pending” status .
- An editable field to modify the address.
- A “Check address in real time” button , which validates the address against the GLS database.
🪜 How to solve the error step by step
- Open the order with an error: Locate the order in the "Error and Review" column of the Orders module. Open it by clicking the eye icon.
- Change the status to “Pending”: Use the yellow “Return to Pending” button. This will allow you to edit the shipment details.
Edit the recipient address: Check especially:
- Street number
- Name of the road (make sure it does not have abbreviations other than GLS)
- Postal code and city (for confirmation only)
- Check the address in real time: Click the "Check Address" button. A window will open showing whether the address is valid or not based on the GLS database.
- Correct if necessary: If the system indicates that it is not valid , modify the fields until it appears as correct .
- Save changes: Once the address is accepted, save the order changes. The system will process it normally again.
- Confirm the final status: Check that the order has been moved from pending to confirmed . If it's already confirmed, the issue is resolved ✅.
💡 Helpful Tips
- Always verify the address on Google Maps before entering it, but be aware that GLS may use a different format .
- When in doubt, try different variations of the number or format.
- If the error persists after several attempts, contact support to review the automatic validation.
✅ Expected final result
Once the address has been corrected and validated correctly:
- The order goes to “Confirmed” status.
- Sent to GLS without errors.
- There is no need to repeat the process manually.
